As a new or expecting parent, you're navigating a world of new information. When it comes to feeding your baby, you've likely heard about lactation consultants, but you may not have considered how a neonatologist could be a vital part of your breastfeeding journey.

At Bloom and Grow Lactation Medicine, I bring a unique and powerful combination of expertise to my practice. I'm not only a board-certified lactation medicine physician, but I am also a board-certified pediatrician and neonatologist. This background allows me to offer a level of care that goes beyond the basics, providing comprehensive, physician-level support for both you and your baby.

What is a Neonatologist?

A neonatologist is a pediatrician who undergoes extensive additional training to specialize in the medical care of newborn infants, particularly those born prematurely or with complex health issues. My work in neonatology often placed me in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU), where I provided critical care to our community's most vulnerable infants.

My Perspective on Infant Feeding

My neonatologist training provides a comprehensive understanding of newborn anatomy, physiology, and the intricate coordination required for successful feeding. This uniquely qualifies me to manage the nutritional needs of infants with sucking, swallowing, and breathing challenges. While invaluable for any breastfeeding parent and baby, this expertise is significant for families who have experienced a stay in the NICU.

I have a special interest in supporting NICU families because their journey requires a specialized approach. The path to breastfeeding after a stay in the neonatal intensive care unit can present unique challenges. My background enables me to understand your baby's medical history and provide the nuanced, ongoing care needed to help you and your baby thrive during your feeding journey.
