You can schedule a visit:
During pregnancy – to prepare for breastfeeding and build confidence
After birth – for help with latch, milk supply, pain, or any concerns. We recommend scheduling an appointment right after discharge from the hospital after birth. It is best to get support before challenges and problems arise. Preventive medicine for both mom and baby.
Anytime in your breastfeeding journey – we’re here for every stage
If you’re feeling uncertain, that’s okay. Many parents wait too long to ask for help—you don’t have to struggle alone. A lactation medicine clinic visit can bring peace of mind, practical solutions, and personalized support for whatever stage you're in
While our focus is breastfeeding, we support all families—whether you're exclusively nursing, pumping, combo feeding, or using formula. Our goal is to help you make informed choices that feel right for you and your baby.
Coverage may vary by insurance, but we are in network with most major insurance plans, including Mississippi Medicaid and the managed care organizations. We use physician level diagnosis and procedure codes as medically necessary. If you prefer self pay, please let us know and we can provide you the cost of these services. Feel free to reach out at 601-427-0777 for specific questions.
Absolutely! We encourage the involvement of your partner or support team. Breastfeeding is a family journey, and having your support system involved can make a big difference.
Yes. Dr. Campbell is trained and certified in perinatal mental health certified (PMH-C). We understand that emotional well-being is deeply connected to breastfeeding and parenting success. We provide a safe, supportive space to talk about postpartum mood concerns and connect you with further resources and treat with medications if needed.
We are the only practice in Mississippi led by a board-certified breastfeeding medicine physician, Dr. Leigh Campbell, who is also a pediatrician, neonatologist, and lactation medicine specialist. Dr. Campbell brings a rare combination of medical knowledge and lived experience as a breastfeeding mother.
Dr. Campbell graduated from St. Andrew's Episcopal School in Ridgeland, MS in 1995. She completed her four year degree with a BS in Biology at Rhodes College in Memphis, TN.
Dr. Campbell's medical training began at the University of Mississippi Medical Center (UMMC) where she met her husband. She completed a pediatric residency at UMMC and a fellowship in neonatology at the University of Alabama, Birmingham (UAB).
The is among the first group of physicians in North America to become board certified in lactation medicine.
Although Dr. Campbell is trained and board certified as a pediatrician and neonatologist, she is not a medical home for general pediatrics. Dr. Campbell works collaboratively with your pediatrician, family medicine physician, OB, midwife, nurse practitioner.
Yes. Dr. Campbell evaluates each mother and baby dyad carefully to determine if baby's oral structures are contributing to breastfeeding difficulties, and if it will be better managed by a procedure or by non-invasive interventions.
Bloom and Grow Lactation does not accept external referrals solely for frenotomy procedures. However, new and established patients are offered comprehensive care. Following history assessment and evaluation, if ankyloglossia is diagnosed as functionally significant and contributing to breastfeeding challenges, Dr. Campbell may perform a frenotomy procedure following informed consent, shared decision-making, and following appropriate conservative management.
Please note that a frenotomy is not performed in infants who are not breastfeeding (such as for speech concerns or for bottle feeding) or who are older than 3 months of age. A history of receiving IM Vitamin K following birth is required.
Dr. Campbell follows the evidence-based American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) Guidelines "Identification and management of ankyloglossia and its effect on breastfeeding infants."
Dr. Campbell determines if a frenotomy procedure is medically necessary. Procedures for "lip ties" and "cheek ties" are not recommended for the indication of breastfeeding support and care and are not performed by Dr. Campbell.
