My journey into breastfeeding medicine began, unexpectedly, during my neonatology fellowship. I was pregnant with twins after a long struggle with infertility and PCOS. Working full-time in a NICU while pumping every three hours taught me something no textbook could that even with every medical resource at my fingertips, breastfeeding was hard.
I saw brilliant mothers give up not because they wanted to, but because the system around them didn't have the specialized care they needed. Lactation consultants are essential but there was no one bridging the gap between lactation support and full medical evaluation. No one to prescribe. No one to image a suspected abscess. No one to sit with a mother through her postpartum mental health and her feeding journey simultaneously.
So I trained. And trained. And then I built the practice I wish had existed for me.
Today, as Mississippi's only board-certified breastfeeding medicine physician, I care for mothers and babies with a level of medical depth that our state has never had access to before. Every family that walks through our doors deserves that.
